10 Tattoo Blogs you should be reading.

Okay so there are a lot of tattoo blogs out there. 90% of them focus on shit tattoos or celebrities tattoos and other crap like that. Here’s 10 tattoo related blogs actually worth checking out (in no particular order)

1) Sang Bleu (http://www.sangbleu.com)
Sang Bleu is the brainchild of Maxime Buchi, a former apprentice of Filip Leu. He blogs and publishes a magazine very much like S&D do but his magazines are often hundreds of pages long and feature top photographers. Whilst not all the content of the Sang Bleu blog is tattoo related a fair proportion is.

2) Needles & Sins (http://www.needlesandsins.com/)
Needles & Sins is the work of Marisa Kakoulas, who was also behind the very popular Needled.com before it’s demise. Marisa is a tattooed lawyer and ex-wife of Daniel DiMattia the Belgian heavy blackwork specialist. Needles & Sins also features contributions from Sean Risley formerly of My Body Story which was another great read back in the day.

3) Honkey-Kong (http://honkey-kong.blogspot.com/)
Honkey Kong or Adam Hathorn tattoos stuff that could be considered newskool in some ways. It’s all a tongue in cheek mixture of comicbook and gangster stuff. His blog is a reflection of his sense of humour and style of work.

4) Pitch Black 1891 (http://pitch-black1891.blogspot.com/)
Pitchblack1891 is the work of Mr. Petri Aspvik. It’s full of detailed profiles and interviews with various tattooers. Petri writes for our zine as well as Tattoo Artist Magazine and TattooNow. He’s a gifted writer an imparter of knowledge and a fellow Higgsian. This is essential reading for the tattoo nerd.

5) Copper Beehive (http://copperbeehive.wordpress.com/)
Copper Beehive is the blog of Bailey Hunter Robinson. Bailey is a very talented tattooer who works out of Saved Tattoo in New York. This blog is a collection of his art, tattoos and observations on life. Definitely worth checking out.

6) Sarah Schor (http://sarahschor.com/)
Sarah Schor is a very talented young tattooer and artist. She works out of Red Hot and Blue in Edinburgh, Scotland but can also be found guesting in New York Adorned and Frith Street (London). Her work is very beautiful and ornate neo-traditional stuff and her blog showcases it nicely alongside her more traditional artwork.

7) Modus Operandi (http://murraysell.blogspot.com/)
Modus Operandi is the work of Murray Sell. It’s an archive of his painting, tattoos and various painting trades he’s made. His ability to put out so much quality work so quickly is truly mind-blowing. He also has a book out well worth checking out.

8) The Blog of Uncle (http://onkelallan.blogspot.com/)
Uncle Allan needs no introduction. This is an archive of his travels, work, art and observations. Well worth reading.

9) FTW/TCB (http://ftwtcb.blogspot.com/)
FTW/TCB is the work of Matt Brotka. A tattooer working out of Richmond, Virginia. His blog hasn’t been updated in a while but is still very much worth reading.

10) Hoopers Electric (http://meditationsinatrament.com/)
Hoopers Electric is the blog of Mr. Thomas Hooper. Hooper is a master tattooer and works out of New York Adorned and before that Frith Street (London). This blog will keep you up to date with his work, art, apparel and various projects he’s undertaken.
